In Due Time ~ Tebow

In Due Time ~ Tebow

In Due Time, that’s the phrase that is running through the mind of Timothy Richard Tebow as he thinks over a message to his fans, “You just keep your faith in me and don’t act impatiently – I’ll get where I need to be, all In due time just wait with me-Truth is, it’s hard being forced to move slowly, you know me out the pocket and up the field quickly – Just hold on and don’t let go I’ll give you what I owe, In due time”

A leader on the football field, arguably the best college football player in the last 20 years, Heisman trophy winner, and 2 time National Champion. Tebow is not use to sitting by and watching his teammates perform without him, but if you’re the Broncos what do you do? Tebow isn’t ready and Orton is ranked as an average to slightly above average QB and Orton gives the mediocre Broncos their best chance to compete. Unfortunately for Tebow he didn’t enter the NFL at the same time Outkast’s song, “In Due Time”. dropped. If he did he would have been given a clip board and 3 years to learn behind an NFL veteran. Oh, how the times have changed!

The success of quarterbacks (QB) like Ben Roethlisberger, Peyton Manning, Joe Flacco, and Matt Ryan have laid the ground work for even more fan impatience. Like the 24 hour internet/news cycle fans are no longer willing to wait 2 or 3 years for guys to develop… they’re barely willing to wait 2 or 3 games. In the aforementioned group, with the exception of Manning those successful Rookie Quarterbacks were asked to be game managers on talented Super Bowl caliber teams “Here ya go son, just hand the ball off to our stud running back and complete 15 passes a game and don’t throw any picks”, heard from the head coach. The weight of the season was not on their shoulders for the most part they had talented skill position players around them and a top 5 defense.

What did the Denver Broncos have when Tebow joined the squad? Decent wide receivers a middling running game and a horrendous defense, not a recipe for success for a rookie QB. I also failed to mention that Tebow’s throwing mechanics were the biggest hold up in his development as a pro, his release point was erratic and his delivery was slooooooow. NFL Quarterbacks have to be able to throw quite a few different routes; a go route, a slant, an in, a fade, a hook, a hitch, and of course an out route. An out route simple in name separates NFL signal callers from CFL signal callers. The determining factors for throwing an effective NFL out route are arm strength and passing delivery speed which dictate whether you play in the USA or elsewhere. Tebow has the arm strength but he still has bad mechanics that affect the overall time to deliver the football to his receivers. It’s well-known that out route drills are the one way expose a Quarterback’s flaws.

In college he was flat-out better than the guys he competed against, he was faster than the lineman, most linebackers and a few safeties. In the NFL his speed puts him at about the level of an average Tightend, he can’t lean on athleticism to get around his throwing flaws.

Tebow will start as an NFL QB but he will be taking the more traditional route as previously traveled by many other NFL Quarterbacks. He won’t be taking the express train like Cam Newton he just doesn’t have the skills to successfully compete but that will come In DUE TIME.

Cam Newton… Certified

Cam Newton… Certified

When he was drafted number one over all, too many people questioned the decision-making ability of the Panthers’ management. In the year prior to the arrival of Cameron Newton (Cam-Cam), the Carolina Panthers invested in Jimmy Clausen with their second round pick.

So why the hell would a team need to have that many early round selection QB’s on the same roster, you may wonder. I mean, everybody knows that it takes time to develop any one talent… Plus, if one considers all of the baggage that Cam was entering the draft with as well as ominously being known as Cam “Show Me The Money” Newton. Drafting Cam seemed like an impulsive move on behalf of the Panthers organization to say the least. It reminded me of moronic deals I made with mom in exchange for that new shiny toy; Only to regret it the minute I got home because I had more fun with the box and plenty more chores in trade for potential fun.

Well, the answer is simple… The Carolina Panthers suck! Let the truth be told they still do, but they are trending in the right direction. What is the number one rule of gamblers that play roulette on a 50/50? Always bet on black, and go “all in”… Eff it… cause at this point you are playing with house money. And guess what happened when the Panthers went “all in”… They won!!!!

Before Cam, the Panthers’ franchise had no identity, no sex appeal, and really were not worth watching on Sunday. However, they needed/wanted a QB in Cam, but even more, they needed some star power. They needed somebody that could be the face of the franchise, somebody that could fill the stadium, somebody
that could make the team worth a damn. They got both, A straight up starred studded QB that can ball!!!

Prior to the start of the season, damn-near every “expert” analyst stated that Cam was not ready to be a starter in the NFL. Often stating he didn’t have the faculties to do well at this level. I listened to
rant after rant, ripping this Cat to shreds, before he even lined up under center for the first time in a game. Then came week one… Cam dropped 422 yards (record for a rookie in his debut) on the Arizona
Cardinals.. completing 24 of 37 passes, and recording 2 touchdowns. The following morning, the haters returned only to down play Cam’s stats and focused solely on the L that the Panthers secured.

Unable to admit that they were wrong, the “experts” pointed to week 2 and promised that Cam’s numbers would return to reasonable levels. In week 2, Cam Cam
scorched the Packers for 432 yards and finally people started to believe. In week three, after suffering two L’s (while securing video game like numbers), Cam seized his first W.

While we are only 3 games into the season, it’s hard to bet against this kid (cause you always win when you bet on black). The Panthers were looking for a star, and they got a bona-fide Polaris and this kid will be around for a while. If you are still unsure, go try
to find him in the free agency pool in your fantasy football league. You can’t, cause Cam Newton is the real deal, and that, you can bet
on!
